CBD or cannabidiol has become a popular go to drug to use for a variety of problems. There’s only one FDA approved CBD prescription medication – Epidiolex. It’s approved for a specific kind of seizure disorder. But you can get CBD without a prescription and it’s being marketed for all kinds of problems – pain, anxiety, PTSD depression and ADHD among others. However, there really isn’t strong research evidence showing that CBD consistently and effectively treats these disorders. There have been several organizations that have analyzed data and conducted their own research and to date the evidence is still inconsistent on the ability of cannabis and especially CBD alone to improve these disorders. The good news IS, the research on the medical use of cannabis has not stopped. So just because we don't have good evidence now doesn't mean it won’t come. The drug Sativex is approved to treat neuropathic pain and other types of pain. But it’s not available in the United States, it’s still in the clinical trials phase in the US. However, this drug, contains a 1:1 ratio of THC to CBD. Does this mean we really do need THC to get the therapeutic affect of cannabis? If so, that could mean taking CBD alone is a waste because it subjects you to side effects without giving you enough benefits. These are questions still to be answered. WANT TO START IN THERAPY?
